My appologies if this is posted in the wrong area.

I keep on getting mixed answers so I thought I'd ask here.  My mom and grandpa are really at odds over this.  Grandpa tells me I'm going to have to grow back my bangs for reenacting.  ((I have bangs because my forehead is pretty high.))  Mom says that I don't have to since there are photos of women with bangs but she says I'll have to style them.

I've tried doing reasearch but I haven't found any information on if it's accurate or not.

Any advice on the matter will be greatly appreciated.  :)

Dear Errowyn,

I think that they write about bangs in the book "Who Wore What". I do not have it with me but I will check it to see. Have you looked at the civil war pictures? In all most every case the lady will not have bangs. The style of the day was to have the hair very smooth with the ,bun or other shape, hair pinned low on the back of the head.

I too have a high forehead . At events I wear my hat or cap all day. This covers my forehead and bangs with ease. I just pin them back or use spray. I read someplace that they sometimes used sugar water when styling their hair! How sweet!:D

(I will be moving this to it's own topic if we get more interest.)

Sugar water?  I think that would get mighty sticky.  My hair likes to hiss at me so keeping it under a hat or a bonnet would be a good idea for me.  Maybe if I get some good sized bobby pins I can pin my bangs up.  That and find a flattering hat.

It's kind of funny looking at some sites and finding all these historical and not so historical hats in an assortment of colors.

With luck I'll be able to go to Casa de Fruta in June and we'll be able to see one another and you can recommend what would be best for me.

I rather like this hat.  Do you think something like this would work?

Provided all goes well I should be there.  I'm about five feet, nine inches tall so I'm sometimes hard to miss in a crowd.  That's me in my avatar.  I liiiiike my pirate hat.  ;)

I'll see what I can do hat wise and such.  I'll probably go with basic brown or cream.  Once I get there I'll probably be taking costume notes down like mad.
