Folks, How about a picture of one's sweetheart.  That would always be welcome.  All the other boys would gather around and make a fuss.

A dear John letter would also be very realistic.

I like Ranger-Rose's idea a lot.

I like Jerri's idea for the cookies and socks.

This could make a great scenario. Club members could draw in the public to show them a typical mail call. The guy who gets the box can read the letter out loud, get all upset and be consoled by his buddies.

So, are you guys going to write the letter? To our selves? I am not sure that I could write a dear john letter to myself.

What a concept,

I think I'll see if I can get Debi to write a letter on paper in script. She wants me to come up with the letter contents. ......

Nope, she won't do it. I can't write very well, but if we don't show the letter to the public, that's not a problem. I can come up with a letter and print it in script. I have just the paper to print it on, as well.

You know, the letter doesn't even have to come from the girl.  The news could come from a relative. News from home. And, by the way, Betty Sue runt off and got herself married to some damned yankee/reb. Or even worse, Betty Sue fell down the well and crossed over. Took us near all day ta git her owt. How bout Granpa got kicked by the mule and knocked silly.  He ain't ate fer a weak, keeps callin fer his dog, you know thet kerr been dead fer going on 10 yars.

If mail is what you want, just start brainstormin.  If all of you makes just one letter we could make mail call work. I will make up a mail bag for the Rebs. Now who will make one for the Yanks.  I will even assign one of my men to act as the mailman and deliver it to the units.

Using parchement and period envelopes is incidental.  The contet is most important. There are plenty of places to get period envelopes and paper.  That's the easy part.

If you read "Johny Reb" you will see that folks used just about everything to write on.

If yall get creative mail could be a hoot.  I will commit to a couple of letters. I'll make a couple so the Yanks can have one too.

Just my two cents

Major Rose

That is so fun!:D My favorite was Grandpa and the mule! LOL I'll write a letter and so will my daughter. A few years back Mary Hess had some letters done, I'll ask her. What should the bag look like?

Something simple like canvas.  If you want to be authentic maybe go online and do some research.  I am sure though that most anything would do.

Hello Folkses!
I think that if at evens you went around with paper and pencil after hours and talked to folks about this site and gathered email addresses or even had a sign up sheet or data sheet of some type and then do a mass mailing to these folks they might join in. I had all but forgotten about this forum. I have recently been through two back surgery's and have been fighting a lossing battle with pain. All is getting better now and I should be back on the field and with the program now since the last proceedure. I will make an effort to get folks more involved. In my new and lattest position as Confederate Brigade Commander I am going to endevor to create a more dynamic atmosphere in and around the camps and on the field. We continue to do the same old things at the same old places. Time for a change.
I will take it one step at a time but will see what I can do.
If anyone has any ideas as to how we can liven things up please feel free to talk to me about it. We need new ideas and we all need to get involved.
Let's see if we can get my Union Counterpart involved here too. ANyone know how to contact him.
Regards
Colonel Rose

Thanks Ranger,

I had hoped that people would use this site and maybe I should put a note in the Courier again.

Thank you for caring,
