Thanks, it took me about two weeks to get it done. I also have a website in the works but I won't have that done until after my vacation.

Far be it for me to repurpose your web board. I do, however, think it is an excellent idea if there were a web board for everyone interested in the ACWA. This could possibly be just another mechanism that helps bring in new members. I think some topics might be:

Young reenactors - no adults allowed :-)
Talk about your unit history - here's the place where you talk about your historic unit
Reenactorisms - We see everyone else doing these things, but did you know that are not period correct?
What is period correct? - historical tidbits and facts, please, no opinions and cite your sources.
ACWA members soapbox - Please refrain from pointing fingers.

These are just off the top of my head. You are doing a good thing here, Jerri. By the way, the link to this board on the ACWA web board is broken.

Hi ID,

I like your idea's! The "for young people only " might be trouble so I'm not going to do that. Lets see what happens.

OH, I did message John about the link. I had tried it saturday.

That just might work. Now if some people would join, then we might get some younger people.

Jeri, to get more people on the message board, two things: maybe change the name to ACWA Message Board or just create another board for the ACWA as a whole (after all ladies like to gather together without us men clomping around). The second is linking on other sites and boards. It would not hurt to put an anouncement in the Courier as well.

This board may not draw much, but it certainly won't if no one knows about it.

Oh, another thought: announce this board to the ACWA mailing lists. That automatically gives everyone with email (by default meaning they also have internet access) the heads up.

Greetings from "Camp Spindle"
This is Major Rose, Commander of the 43rd. Va. Cav. ACWA. A little about myself. I joined the ACWA in it's infiancy., a good friend of Bill Jones. I was a private in the 33rd. Va. Bill asked me if I wanted to start a Cav unit. So after thinking about one minute I decided on the 43rd. "Mosby's Rangers" I had a;ways been a fan of Francis Marrion "The Swamp Ghost" and had read of the exploits of Colonel Mosby and remember the TV series as well. Latter I became Bill's Adjutant and then ascended to the position of XO. Soon after I was made Colonel of the Brigade where I remained unwillingly for three years. Folks, the job is not all it is cracked up to be. You get to wear a fancy uniform and wave a sword but that sword is double edged. The position requires a lot of time and dealing with a lot of people on subjects that are very important to them and you just can't make everybody happy so... Sometimes you make people unhappy. That is the last thing I ever wanted to do. But on the other hand some people, and you hope the majority are happy with your decisions. I am glad I am back to my company now and able to have fun. I also had the distinction to be on the Board at the same time as I was Brigade Commander. Has that ever happened before. Anyway, what happens, do you get two votes. NOT!
Anyway, that's who I am. Some of you may know me. I can tend to be verbose and run on and on. Ya'll wanted some folks to join so, like it or not. Here I is.

Best Regards,
Major Rose
P.S.
I will get the boys and Momma to check out the site.

Major Rose, welcome, sir, to this board. I am tickled that Jerri set this up for us because the synergy of communication, I trust, will make us a better club.:D

Laura Jones, to use one's own name as a handle shows a person of great inner strength and integrity. You have nothing to hide. Welcome to you, as well.

Hi everyone,

I finally got some time to sit down and surf the site and locate the forum. Very nice, and no doubt I will be a more frequent visitor from now on. For those who don't know me, my name is Erin Hess and I have been serving as the ACWA Treasurer for the last two years. Not that I've had too much work to do, but maybe we can change that. :D  I am going to continue on to another section of the forum and post some more info about myself and plans for this upcoming year, I just wanted to do a quick introduction here.

I am moving to the civilian camp. As the president I have been unable to particepate with my unit. Kecia and I are also going to have a new member in our camp and babies do not belong in a militery camp. I will also be taking over the speaking before the battles from Ray. I am looking forward to working with the corp in the future.

Greetings.  Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Eric Voepel.  Some of you may know me personally, some by name and others by reputation.  I chose to use the moniker "Capt_Jack" because I strongly admire the Modoc Indian warrior of that name who, among other things, is know to have killed General Canby.  In addition, I own property in Modoc County and love that part of the country where I have many fond memories.  I have joined this forum to reinvest myself in Civil War reenacting with the ACWA.
For those of you who do not know me, I got my start in reenacting in 1996.  In that year, myself and two friends, Jimmy Cheatham and Pat Delgado, attended our very first reenactment, held by the NCWA at Larson's Farm in Cotati.  We all being history buffs, we fell in love with what we saw and were determined to be a part of the fun.  Unfortunately, the NCWA were not entirely warm to our attempts at joining and so we sent away somewhat disappointed.
A couple of months later, we attended the ACWA's event at Putnam Park in Petaluma.  It was at this event where I first met then Lt. Colonel Joe Rosiles, Mike Soden, Moose Dutton, and several others who were to become my friends.  The warmth and welcome we felt from the ACWA was considerably different than what we had experienced from the NCWA, and the three of us took out memberships that very day.
It was October of 1997 when the 4th Texas first took the field at Gibson Ranch (which was at that time an ACWA event) with myself as unit commander.  That first event had the 4th fighting along side the 9th LA commanded at that time by 2nd Lt. Joe Cenizal and 1st Sgt Denise "Isham" Judd, both of whom were instrumental in the formation of the 4th.  In a short time, the 4th found itself as the pride of the Confedrate Brigade and during those first four years AVERAGED 19, 23, 21, and 17, respectively.
Unfortunately, the 4th had joined the Brigade at a most difficult time, having joined just shortly after the removal of Colonel Bill Jones as Brigde Commander.  There was a terrible amount of in-fighting within the brigade, as well as interferance from the Executive Committee and several members of the Federal Brigade.  Being somewhat neutral, I found myself serving as one of three judges during a Court of Inquiry for Col. Jones.  I can tell you from personal experience that there are no winners at a Court of Inquiry
During those first three years, I had the pleasure of serving under Colonel Joe Rosiles, who is a most respectable and honorable man, and a man I consider to be a friend.  Colonel Rose served in a position he neither sought nor desired, but was most certainly the right man during a difficult time.  I learned a lot about this hobby and how to command men at this venue from Colonel Rose.
After serving as unit commander for three years, I was ready to step down and allow my 1st Sgt., Jimmy Cheatham, to assume command.  I was however, convinced to serve on the staff of then Colonel Mike Soden as his Chief of Staff and Second in Command of the Brigade with the rank of Lt. Colonel.  Then, upon Col. Soden standing down, I succeeded him as Brigade Commander, serving for three years.
During my time in the ACWA, I have been involved in many facets of the organization.  I attended most club meetings and sted fastly defended the rights of the Confederate Brigade.  I was committee chair and basically the chief writer and editor of the Confederate Brigade bylaws as they currently exist.  I created the command structure currently being used by the Confederate Brigade.  I served as one of two (Marcus Mulkins being the other) representatives of the Confederate Brigade on the committee who unsuccessfully attempted to write new bylaws for the club (what ever happened to those Mary?).  While serving as Brigade Commander, I oversaw the addition of the 1st and 55th Virginia to the club, respectively, as well as on several other committees for various other purposes.  I am quite proud of my contributions to my club and to my Brigade.
After completing my service as Brigade Commander, and suffering a heavy case of "reenactor burn-out," I decided to take some time off.  However, during that time off I have kept continual watch over events happening within the club, and sadly, have watched the decline of reenacting, the Confderate Brigade and my beloved 4th Texas.
Now I feel, is the time to return, as I once again find myself in command of the 4th.  I look forward to 2007 knowing that the 4th will once again return to its place as the pride of the brigade.
